The film, an extraordinary story of Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame from her early days in Camden through the making of her groundbreaking album, is out in cinemas in the UK and Ireland today (12th April) and in North America on 17th May.
The film’s sensitive underscore was provided by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. “Sam [Taylor-Johnson, Director] wanted a very particular sound for the underscore – achieving heartbreak without being sad, without overindulging in the tears,” says music producer Giles Martin. “I think Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are musical geniuses and they understand what that is. It’s a complete treat to be able to collaborate and work with them. I think the results are truly amazing.”
